Professor Rodrigo Costa
Black Belt – 3rd Degree
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Rodrigo Costa started training Jiu-Jitsu in 1997. He is our Black Belt 3rd Degree encharged to Manage the Academy and relationship with students and parents. As a Black Belt Instructor, he has the desire to teach students to be the best they can at Gracie Barra Orlando.
Rodrigo Costa has started with kids’ class a few years ago, starting as Brown Belt. After Black Belt, he started to teach full-time at Gracie Barra Orlando being the main Instructor. He has 15 years of experience teaching. He’s very patient and focused on each of the student’s goals.
He loves Jiu-Jitsu and loves to teach Jiu-Jitsu, doing that with pleasure.
Professor Brandon Diaz
Head Instructor – Kids
Born in Orlando, FL USA, he started training Jiu-Jitsu in 2012. He is an active competitor to challenge himself and to improve his Jiu-Jitsu techniques and to become a better person on and off the mats.
He started assisting the kids’ class in 2016. What he loves about teaching is seeing the kids progress every day they come to class. It’s very rewarding for him to help kids overcome different challenges.
His favorite thing to do is train Jiu-Jitsu all day. But in his free time he likes to spend time with family and friends, and also like to relax and spend time at the beach.
Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico. He started training martial arts at the age of 14 with striking arts. Later on, he discovered Brazilian jiu-jitsu and fell in love with it. He’s one of the school’s competitors and kid’s coach.
He began assisting the kid’s class in 2018. What he loves about teaching is seeing how the kids progress and develop on and off the mats. For him to see the kids enjoy the art as much as he does means everything to him.
His favorite thing to do is train jiu-jitsu all day. But in his free time he likes to play video games, spend time with friends and family and have a good time
Born in São Paulo, Lívia Santos started her Jiu-Jitsu journey at a very young age and began competing at age 10. In 2019 she competed as a blue belt juvenile at IBJJF Worlds and won 2nd Gi and 3rd No Gi. In 2020 she competed as a purple belt in the IBJJF Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championship where she won 2nd in Gi. She also competed in the American National Championship in 2020 and won 1st place No Gi.
Lívia began assisting in Kid’s classes in 2019.
At Gracie Barra Orlando, she assists in Kid’s class where enjoys helping others to do their best inside and outside the mats.
Her favorite part of her day is training Jiu-Jitsu. “When I’m training I forget about everything and just focus on doing my best,” says Lívia.
Brown Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Black Belt 1st Degree Taekwondo
Born in Thailand, Jerry Xayavong started training Jiu-Jitsu in 2014. He is a purple belt one stripe and as Program Director, he is tasked to manage the academy and relationships with students and parents. Before training exclusively BJJ, he earned his black belt in Taekwondo and also practiced Capoeira. In 2020, he competed in the IBJJF Pan American Jiujitsu Championship where he won gold! He also competed in IBJJF World Master and won gold!
His favorite thing to do is to train and share Jiu-Jitsu all day. But in his spare time, he likes to spend time with family and friends, read, play chess, and plant trees.
Born in Brazil, Giovanna Silva started training Jiu-Jitsu in July 2020. She has been working out regularly for over 6 years including Muay Thai Training and weight lifting. However, once she discovered not just how much fun training jiu-jitsu is, but how effective it is for self-defense, she decided to focus mainly on training jiu-jitsu!
As a mom of two and a full schedule, Giovanna makes time to train regularly and helps out as Program Coordinator at Gracie Barra Orlando!
Her favorite things to do when not training, are spending time and traveling with her family.
Social Media Manager
Born in Mexico City, Zabdiel has had a passion for photography, graphics, and social media from an early age. As a Social Media Manager, he creates and monitors all of Gracie Barra Orlando’s online content and presence.
His favorite thing to do is to be creative. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, also playing drums and piano.
